Types of Window Replacement

Casement Windows:

A casement window is a very popular choice for a residential window replacement. The beautiful construction offers ample glass exposure combined with a gentle outward opening of the sash with the easy crank of a handle for great ventilation and a lovely aesthetic appearance.

Sliders:

Slider windows are durable and sturdy, perfect for everyday wear and tear, but they also look great with their crisp, clean lines. The sleek sashes of slider windows glide easily along their horizontal tracks for effortless opening and closing and they also lift out, making cleaning a breeze! You can choose between double slider windows, which open from both sides, and single, which open on one side.

Awning Windows:

Awning style windows open up and out, providing you with convenient ventilation. Awnings can give you a uniquely customized look, especially when they are paired with fixed lites.

Double and Single Hung:

With a single hung window, only the bottom sash moves up and down.  With a double hung window, both the top and bottom sashes move for maximum ventilation customization. Choose a style that tilts in for easy cleaning of both the inside and outside of your windows.

Signs It's Time For a Residential Window Replacement

1. Drafts:

If you feel drafts coming through your windows even though they are tightly closed, then it might mean that it is time for a residential window replacement. Drafts around windows occur for a number of reasons including:

  • Poor or insufficient insulation
  • Faulty seals
  • Improper installation

Excessive drafts from your windows can make a big difference to your energy bills and they also force your HVAC system to work harder to maintain your desired room temperature.

2. Condensation:

If you notice condensation or frost building up between the layers of glass in your windows, then they may need to be replaced. This type of build-up occurs when the seals in your windows fail, allowing moisture to collect in between the panes. If you had insulating gas between your panes, then it will have escaped as well.

3. Hard to Open, Close, and Lock:

If your windows weren't installed correctly, they may become unbalanced, which can make it difficult to operate them properly. If your windows are starting to rust or rot they will be difficult to use. If they don't close properly and you are unable to lock them, then it is probably a good idea to get a residential window replacement for your safety.

4. Damaged Frames:

If you notice that your window frames are chipped, soft, or even water damaged, then they probably cannot be repaired and will need to be replaced. When window frames feel soft that means that they have absorbed water. Eventually, they will begin to sag.

5. Noise Issues:

If you find that you can hear a lot of outside noise, then your windows may not have been properly sealed or are lower quality. If the noise is an issue, then you could replace your windows with double or triple-pane glass windows to reduce the noise. For even more noise reduction you can get windows that are insulated with Argon or Krypton gas.

"Had the owner, Ian, come and do a quote for my skylight which had started leaking. Within a few hours of the request, Ian had gotten in touch with me and made it out to take a look. The price was competitive and Ian was very personable; without too much time we moved forward with the job...On the day of the job, Ian and Liam showed up right on time and got to work. Within a few hours, the new skylight was installed. The final product has a fantastic look and the best part is it doesn't leak. Overall, Dewar exceeded my expectations. I would recommend them to anyone looking to have some work done." [...read more]
